Historical George Town

The stop to Penang island and George Town was actually something we had not planned for in the beginning of our trip. But when we heard about the historical importance of the town (and that the town is known as the food capital of Malaysia) we decided to make a stop here on our way up north.

George Town is an Asian Town with a European twist, which can be seen especially in the architechture.

We went to Fort Cornwallis (and found the actresses in us :)

Lunch in Little India. The food really IS amazing here! :)

After lunch we visited the Pinang Pernakan Mansion.

There happened also to be a couple who was taking their wedding photos at the mansion. We heard that it's a popular place to take wedding photos at, even if people are not getting married there.

Books, museums and culture

On this trip we've experienced incredibly much and at times it's been nice to also calm down a bit and just take it easy. :) One of the best ways to do this has been by reading books and we wanted to show you our bookish side (with a slight 70's wibe).

Our cultural side has also got some new insights and it's been interesting to learn about the local cultures in Bali, Singapore and Malaysia. In Bali the community culture is extremely rich and in Singapore we learned a lot about the local history through the National Museum. In Kuala Lumpur we visited the Islamic Arts Museum.

Sightseeing in the city took us also to the old railway station and national mosque, first the view from the mosque...

... and the mosque itself. Unfortunately we couldn't enter because of our outfits and the fact that we aren't muslims.

However, we did meet some local school girls who got excited to take photos with us :D (yep, we are not blending here so well...)

Finishing the culture tour at the Merdeka square. Next heading to George Town, with an UNESCO world heritage site.

Luxury in Kuala Lumpur

We spent one night in Kuala Lumpur and really fell for the city! It was authentic in a nice way, neat, easy to get around and lots of things to experience.

The view from our hotel window. Before arriving we had read that if you ever plan on living in a five star hotel, KL is a good place for it. So we did it on our own level, the three star Prescott Inn with warm shower, clean sheets and towels for 35€/3 persons/night truly felt luxorous :D

On our first night we went up to KL Tower, which we could spot from our hotel window, to see the view over the city. In the background are the twin towers.

Later to the night we might have slightly gone lost and so found ourselves on a nice arabic night market. We were the only ones who had not covered their hair,  which made us feel even more western. However it was nice to stroll around :)

The next day we started with dragon fruit juice.

Later in the afternoon we were eating again, this time in Little India. It is the time of the Indian holiday Diwali so there was a lot going on. We also walked around and did some shopping.

As can be seen here on our beautiful ankles! Here we are doing some more shopping at the central market.

In the evening we spotted a beautiful mosque.

We have become commited hard core tourists as not even a little rain stopped our sightseeing.

Later we rewarded ourselves with frozen margaritas.

And had our first western dinner on Changkat street. So good for a change!

Trekking and biking to Tekek

We wanted to explore other beaches on the island too, and when we found the path to the next beach we realized that it's going to be some real jungle trekking... ;)

After 20 minutes (and no snakes!) we arrived to ABC beach.

Further on was the Tekek beach and it was a remarkble contrast between the hippi wibe on ABC and the newly built walking boulevard by the sea at Tekek.

We rented bikes and got to see that Tekek is still very much under construction.

Our big mission for the day was to find internet (and fix one last thing regarding the thesis) and we have never made such a long journey to an internet cafe: through a jungle, passing two beaches and finally biking for half an hour. In the end everything got sorted out and we got to enjoy on the beach again :)

Island life on Tioman

After a great and eventful time in Singapore, it was nice to continue our journey towards nature and sea in Malaysia. We took a morning bus to the border, another one to the town of Mersing and finally a boat to Pulau Tioman.

Tioman is an island on the east coast of Malaysia and it has thick jungle, mountains and peaceful beaches. We were really happy to stay at Panuba Inn, which was a private hotel with own beach.

In the mornings we had relaxing yoga moments on the dock, a great way to start the day! (Then blancing it off with white toast and jam for breakfast.. :)

These days at Tioman were a good way to calm down by laying on the beach, reading books and there were also really good snorkeling spots! Beautiful corals and fish in all colors :)

Lastly we would like to introduce a special monsieur Pedro who brought a lot of joy with his spanish moustche.. ;)

Last night in Singapore

Dear readers (our moms and dads ;) ), we're sorry that we haven 't updated the blog in some days. We didn't forget about you, we were just quite busy lying in hammocks between palm trees. Also we had some difficulties finding wi-fi, trust us we tried.. Anyhow, here come the last pics from Singapore :)

In Singapore we had the pleasure of meeting friends, eating and drinking. The great joys of life! :) with Sofia who is currently doing her exchange at SMU we hang out one afternoon eating delicious sushi.

We also did some walking around the city, enjoying the views.

On our last night in Singapore we went to 1 Altitude bar for drinks and a great view over the city skyline.

We saw the beautiful sunset over the city while enjoying our drinks.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the neat live band.

Later we had dinner with Stella and Brenda at Blue Jazz.

Blue Jazz is one of Stella's favourite places in the city and we fell in love with it too.

To finish the evening Brenda took us to one of her favourite places called Jekyll & Hyde. Over there we had some custome made cocktails that were absolutely delicious!
