It's not about the journey

Inspired by our 31-hour journey from Langkawi to Koh Phangan we decided to share some traveling moments with you.

We have been traveling by different modes of transportation during our trip, and due to our extensive empirical research we can conclude that it is definitely not about the journey, it is the destination that makes it worthwhile.

We have travelled by plane, bus, boat, taxi, minibus, ferry etc.

The boat to Gili that was filled with everything from beer to hay and from ginger to people.

Our fancy VIP bus with wide seats, tv-screens and nice movie selection. The trip from Pulau Tioman to Kuala Lumpur took 6 hours.

Interesting snacks on the lunch break. Pink and green bread..?

Billion Star Ekspres nightbus from Kuala Lumpur to Penang.

The local bus in Penang.

Waiting for the bus in Penang, knowing only the number of the bus, and having no clue if it will come in 5 minutes or 5 hours.

Taking the fast boat between the islands is the nicest way to travel, at least when the boat is not cancelled due to the big waves or people get seasick during the ride.

Sooo many passport controls...

Nice decorations in the bus from Satun to Hat Yai in Thailand.

Finding the right guy with a minivan that accepts your ticket makes you really happy!

Sometimes the minibus looks like this in the reality, even if you were shown a picture of a brand new Mercedes with aircon when you bought the tickets.

Usually the trip takes a few hours longer than you were promised, and includes way more stops along the way than what was discussed.

Malaysia is exceptional when it comes to timetables. If your told that the boat leaves at 8.30, it probably leaves at 8.33. The organised Finn inside us really appreciates this! Indonesia and Thailand are a whole different story. First you are told that the boat leaves at 7. When it's almost 7, and you start to wonder whether the transfer to the pier should leave soon, you are told that the boat leaves at 8. In the pier you are told that it leaves 9.30, and then it actually leaves at 10. Time efficient.

But when you finally reach the desitination, it is so worth it!

  1. Thank you for the updates!
Indeed many modes of transportation you have used. Skip bicycle and motor-cycle for safety reasons..
Enjoy the last part of your journey, we look forward to next Wednesday already,
    Best regards
